Off Pitch by Ashley Bow is a World Series MVP of a debut! This book has everything I love in a sports romance and more- intense chemistry, emotional depth, and a perfectly executed fake-dating trope. Knox and Harlow (Lo) have undeniable, sizzling chemistry from the very first page, and watching them navigate their fake relationship as it slowly turns real was beautiful. The tension between them is electric and when they finally give in to their attraction, it’s HOT- Knox certainly knows how to treat Lo in and out of the bedroom, and his mouth? Lord. Have. Mercy. Let’s just say he definitely lives up to his persona in the best way possible.
What I loved most was how their relationship wasn’t just about the attraction; it’s about real growth and healing. Knox, with his grumpy and brooding demeanor, is a man who’s been hurt, but Lo’s consistency, light, and love allow him to open up and face his past. Watching both of them help each other heal and become better versions of themselves was a beautiful journey.
The supporting cast of characters is fantastic too! From Harlow’s brother, Cole, and his teammates, to her best friends, Lucia, Ella, and Rory, each secondary character adds depth to the story and provides the perfect balance of humor and heart. They all have their own personalities and stories that enrich the plot, and their insights offer the perfect outside perspective on Knox and Lo’s evolving relationship.
Ashley Bow has delivered a flawless debut with Off Pitch. The writing is smooth, the pacing is spot-on, and the character development is outstanding. I couldn’t put it down and immediately wanted more. If you’re a fan of grumpy/sunshine dynamics, fake dating, and a close-knit friend group, this book will steal your heart. Highly recommend this one- it’s an all-star read!
